Have you ever heard about music genre named 'Dangdut'?
In my country, Indonesia, dangdut is very popular among the low income and village people. But, the middle and high income people also familiar with this genre, and can appreciate it as an entertainment music.

Dangdut (/dɑːŋˈduːt/) is a genre of Indonesian dance & folk music originated from Java island, Dangdut is partly derived and fused from Hindustani, Arabic music, and to lesser extent local folk music. Dangdut is a very popular genre in Indonesia and in another Malay World countries as well because of its melodious instrumentation and vocals. Dangdut features a tabla and gendang beat.
In this blog, I will share my opinion about this music by my experience. The particular instrument in dangdut is bamboo flute, traditional drum from cow/goat skin, and accompanied by keyboard or guitars for bringing up the melody. The music will make you dance.
The vocal has particular technic named 'cengkok', like you miss hit the note but actually not miss and then hit the actual note. Or maybe better for your understanding if I say that is a legato with several notes. The way you pronouncing will be like the Arabic voice 'resonance' around the nose. I am a singer, in choir. The vocal technic is quite different, and sometimes makes me wonder how to do that.
The dance and the show.... oh this music has very big difference when we talk about Dangdut Koplo and which I called as 'classical' Dangdut. Dangdut Koplo has fast beat, and the classical has slower beat. In Dangdut Koplo's show usually the singer wears thight clothes and perform some sensual gesture. There are some popular sensual gesture like 'goyang ngebor' (drilling dance), 'goyang gergaji' (sawing dance), etc. Goyang ngebor is popularized by Inul Daratista.
